The European legislation for microplastics is most likely foreseen for finalisation in 2023

The future European legislation for microplastics will not be presented as part of the 2022 agenda.

The Commission’s proposal for a Regulation to address the unintentional release of microplastics in the environment, contemplated for November 2022, is part of the legislative package on circular economy.

This initiative outlines its strategy to tackle the environmental and economical challenges posed by plastics on the value chain through key commitments at EU level and a list of measurements recommended to national authorities and industry.

The new dates for the Commission adoption seem to be planned alongside the revision of the REACH Regulation on chemical products, which has also disappeared from the 2022 agenda and it is now foreseen for March 2023.
