PVC and its Additives Restriction Roadmap – ECHA Investigation Report

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has been conducting an extensive investigation into polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and its additives. The publication of the Investigation Report on PVC and Its Additives has been delayed to September/October 2023. The report, initially expected to be released by May 2023, has faced some delays. It is anticipated that the report will be published in September or October 2023, marking a significant milestone.

The restriction proposal is expected to address the use of organotins and organophthalates in PVC. Organotins, such as tributyltin compounds, have been utilized as effective flame retardants in PVC products. Similarly, organophthalates are commonly used as plasticizers in PVC.

Once the investigation report is submitted to the European Commission, it will undergo further scrutiny and evaluation. The European Commission will consider the report’s findings and recommendations when potentially formulating a restriction proposal.
