As part of the European Green Deal’s “zero-pollution ambition for a toxic free environment”, the CSS aims at protecting human health and the environment against hazardous chemicals and foster the development of safe alternatives through a mix of legislative and non-legislative initiatives. That is why, the impact assessment would also assess the preferential legislative route for extending the generic approach to risk management to all categories of chemicals mentioned above for consumer products (e.g. detergents) other than toys, cosmetics or food contact materials.
Even if no timeline is available as yet as to when the results of the impact assessment will be made available, it is understood that the process could feed into and/or articulate with the preparation of the expected proposal for a regulation revising REACH in a targeted way.
To that purpose, the European Commission is holding two workshops: one on 21 March 2022 and one in June.
EuMBC and EuPC have participated in the stakeholder workshop, scheduled to take place on 21st, by being present in “Group 1 – PC 32: Polymer preparations and compounds;” among the various breakout sessions.
